Re-Sparkle your Jewelry

Monday, February 9, 2015

As I was picking out a few of my accessories for my trip to Hong Kong, I noticed my Pandora bracelet rusted a lot. To the point there it was almost completely black on some parts. Thank god there is a way to remove the rust. It looks almost completely new after it's cleaned. I regret not taking a picture before I cleaned it so I could have a photo for comparison but here is an after photo.

So how do you achieve that bright shine on old jewelry? The method I used is really simple.

Materials Needed
- Boiling hot water
- Sheet of aluminum foil
- A plate where you can place your jewelry in it
- Baking soda
- *optional* A soft bristled toothbrush

Step 1
Place your sheet of aluminum foil over your plate

Step 2
Place your rusted jewelry on top of the foil. Spread the chains out so they are not clumped together

Step 3
Pour baking soda on top of your jewelry until they are completely covered with baking soda. Doesn't have to be to much, just as long as they are covered.

Step 4
Pour hot water over the jewelry and wait till the fizzing stops.

Step 5 (optitonal)
If there are still left over rust from your jewelry, use a tooth brush and gently scrub off the rust. Add more baking soda if needed and pour hot water over it like Step 3 & 4. Continue scrubbing the jewelry while it is still fizzing.

Step 6
Simply rinse off the excess baking soda with warm water and dry with paper towel.

This process should remove all the rust from your jewelry. Repeat process if there are still some remaining rust left. I hope this works well for you guys! Good luck~
